Once it's put together all the way, this thing is very substantial feeling. I had been shopping them for a while, wanting one for my current 42" LCD, but one that could work with the 55-60" LED-LCD I hope to get this Christmas.
It does a nice job at hiding the various wires. My black components blend right into the black, glass shelves from my DirecTV DVR, my surround sound amp, PS3, to my new black version Wii. I like how the screen rotates right and left to maximize the viewing angle if someone is sitting off to one side.
Once it's put together, it's heavy! I've owned it for several weeks at this point and I remain very happy with it. -- Solid, Sturdy, Pretty
This stand is probably one of the most well-constructed things I've ever laid eyes upon, considering it's puzzle-in-a-box style. I mean, sure, YOU put it together, but Z-line built it in the first place, and I'm awed by the amount of quality on their part. All the bits and pieces are separated in the packaging, and labeled, so you can keep all the extras in case you need them later. There simply is no fishing through a bag of bolts and brackets. And, while the text of the instructions isn't quite the easiest thing to follow, the illustrations are spot-on. Wondering how a piece goes? The diagram isn't some vague "Here's sort of what it'll look like" sketch. It'll show you exactly what you're doing and what everything else so far should look like. They even tell you to hold off on fully tightening all the bolts that could cause mal-alignment if tightened too early. That's something you COULD figure out on your own, but you get to avoid backing through steps to loosen something again and make sure it's stable.
Basically, when you get it built, and you hang your tv on it, it's not going anywhere. I'd hang a glass sculpture from it if I had one... and if the mount were actually made to fit glass sculptures. It comes with some bits to secure it to the wall, but... that thing isn't going anywhere at all. I can probably kick it, and it'll barely move. We've moved it around a bit since it's been put together, and it never feels the least bit wobbly. I've even bumped my head on the TV a few times while getting back up from crouching behind it to get all the wiring on my electronics finished. It barely flinched.
I know it's not the cheapest stand there is, but the column mount is much nicer than having your TV at waist-level, and, again, I can't say enough about the quality of this stand. You're getting what you pay for with this. -- If only every company put this much effort into their product...
The item arrived in perfect shape and was easily removed from the packing. The parts well labelled and the instructions were flawless and very understandable. The parts went together well and the product appears to be very sturdy. I am using it with a 55 inch LCD and do not anticipate any troubles.
I wish all kits were organised this well and had the same quality. -- Near perfect
This Z-line Stand is the best looking stand I have seen. Also very strong for my 55" Sony. It took a couple of hours to assemble but the instructions
were very detailed and easy to follow. I'm very happy with this stand. -- Z-Line Vitoria Flat Panel TV Stand
I could not be more happy with this product.
This is the centerpiece of a 5.1 surround sound HDTV system which I am creating in a modest sized bedroom. The included instructions indicate that this product will hold "most LCD/Plasma TVs up to 60" with a maximum weight of up to 150 lbs.".
This product is very well designed and very well built. The assembly process is non-trivial, but flawless, extremely well organized and quite idiot proof. The only tool not included for assembly is a Phillips head screw driver. The instructions call for two people to assemble it. But, I managed the assembly by myself.
The bottom shelf is 36.5 inches wide. The middle shelf, constrained by bracing hardware, is effectively just over 34.5 inches wide. Most A/V components are 17 inches wide or less. So, the bottom two shelves easily allow for A/V components to be placed side by side (provided each device has at least one side which is lacking in ventilation vents). You would not want to place A/V components in such a way as to block required air flow.
The bottom shelf allows devices to be stacked up to 8.5 inches tall. The middle shelf allows devices to be stacked up to 9.75 inches tall. So, the total number of A/V devices which this unit can hold will be determined by how many can be appropriately stacked (without blocking required air flow) and whether you choose to use the top shelf for a center speaker or to hold more components. My unit is currently housing 5 A/V components on the bottom two shelves. Depending upon the ability to properly stack them, there is easily room for 2 to 5 more components on these two bottom shelves alone.
The top shelf is a very good location for a center speaker. The top shelf is 22.75 inches from the ground. So, ideally, the center speaker will either be aimed up (towards your ears) or you will employ a center speaker such as the JBL ES25C which employs "EOS waveguides that evenly disperse high frequencies". I chose the JBL ES series for my entire surround sound system (ES90, ES20, ES25C, ES250P).
P.S.) Proper HDTV viewing distances and surround sound layouts now make bedrooms the best place to build a media room. -- The Perfect Compact HDTV Entertainment Center
